Quaresma the hero again as Portugal beat Poland on penalties

The first team to reach the semis

They’ve still not won a game in 90 minutes at Euro 2016, but Portugal are in the semi finals.

They fell behind Poland within two minutes in Marseille, with Robert Lewandowski scoring his firs (and last) goal at the tournament. Later in the first half, Bayern Munich bound youngster Renato Sanches’ deflected shot pulled them level.

Other than that, there weren’t many clear-cut chances. Yet again, Cristiano Ronaldo was relatively quiet for the majority of the night – although he did show us some impressive footwork in side stepping an extra time pitch invader.

To penalties it went, and to the surprise of everyone, Ronaldo opted to take the first spot-kick, foregoing an opportunity to take his shirt off in celebration immediately following it.

He was successful, in fact *everyone* was successful with their penalties until Jakub Błaszczykowsk stepped up for the fourth Polish spot kick…

With that miss, Ricardo Quaresma had the chance to be Portugal’s hero for the second match on the trot.

In it went, and through to the semi-finals go Portugal. They’ll face the winners of Wales and Belgium in Lille on Friday night. Can they get to a final without winning a game in regulation time? They’re only one game away from doing so.
