Porto v Chelsea – Player ratings

Bad day at the office...

Nooruddean Choudry

Starting XI:

Begovic – 7

Probably Chelsea’s best player – could have been so much worse without him.

Ivanovic – 2

What’s happened to him? Short of confidence, skinned on numerous occasions. Poor delivery.

Zouma – 4

He has immense potential, but looked raw. Shouldn’t be keeping Terry out of the team.

Cahill – 3

Poor. Was outfoxed by Porto’s clever attacking players and didn’t help his young partner.

Azpilicueta – 5

Best of a bad bunch in defence, but far from his consistent best. Needs to replace Ivanovic.

Ramires – 6

Never stopped working, as is his way. Earned the foul for Chelsea’s goal.

Mikel – 5

Again, worked hard but nothing more. Looked understandably rusty.

Pedro – 5

Put in a shift, but didn’t really contribute any invention or guile. Disappointing.

Fàbregas – 7

The one outfield player who showed real heart and purpose. Still, not quite on form.

Willian – 7

A 7 because he scored a wonderful goal. Never stopped running. There’s a pattern here.

Costa – 6

Unlucky and frustrated on the night. No service. Hit the bar with a thumping effort.

Subs:

Matic – 5

Did okay but didn’t really make much of a difference.

Hazard – 6

Often looked on the verge of doing something, but then robbed of the ball.

Kenedy – 5

Had a shot at the very death, nothing much apart from that.
