Pep Guardiola renews interest in bringing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City

City missed out on Sanchez when he joined United in January 2018

Pep Guardiola is keen to bring Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City this summer, according to Chilen newspaper, La Cuarta.

Sanchez has spent this season on loan at Inter Milan after failing to make an impact at Manchester United, who he joined from Arsenal in January 2018 in a part exchange deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

But the Chilean’s time at San Siro has not been a roaring success, partly due to injuries, with most of his appearances coming off the bench, unable to displace Lautaro Martinez from the starting XI.

Guardiola was interested in signing the forward in 2018 but lost out to United because, in his own words, City couldn’t afford him.

But now, with his value significantly lower, the City boss hopes to finally bring him to the Etihad, where he would replace Leroy Sané who has joined Bayern Munich this summer.

Inter Milan were hoping to strike a deal to keep Sanchez at San Siro but Guardiola’s interest could throw a spanner in the works.

Sanchez is now 31 and has been on a steady decline since his last season at Arsenal. But he plays with the intensity Guardiola desires from his forwards and the pair know each other from their time at Barcelona, almost a decade ago. If anyone can get a tune out of him, it’s Pep.
