What the verdict means for Pep and the Premier League table

Pep Guardiola has broken his silence on Manchester City's guilty verdict, posting a defiant statement on X pledging total support for the club.

The Premier League charged City with 115 breaches of its financial rules, covering the disclosure of finances and compliance with spending controls.

An independent panel ruled this week that Manchester City broke 114 of the 115 Premier League financial charges brought against them in 2023.

City deny any wrongdoing and have lodged an appeal while the Premier League has not yet decided on a fitting punishment.

Guardiola left City as manager this summer, after a decade as the head honcho and bringing 20 trophies home for the club.

However, Pep remains contractually tied to the club as an ambassador for City Football Group, which was confirmed before last season's final game.

So far, City remain in this season's Carabao Cup as Fans have been following the competition's viral moments hub for the latest twists, on the pitch and off it.

Guardiola addressed the row directly in a statement on X, saying he wants "every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever.

"I am, always have been, always will be, behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters," he wrote.

He added: "Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all."

Some have floated stripping City of the titles they won between 2009 and 2018, the period the charges cover, but the Premier League reportedly wants to avoid that outcome.

A points deduction instead would reshape where City sit against their rivals this season.

Fans already argue over how differently the Premier League table would look without contentious VAR calls.

A sporting sanction on City would add a second layer of what-ifs to that debate, but at this moment City's punishment is on hold until the appeal is resolved.
