There was nothing friendly about the final moments of France’s 2-2 draw with Iceland on Thursday night.

Five yellow cards were handed out after the 89th minute in the World Cup holders’ dramatic comeback win at the Stade Municipal de Roudourou.

Trailing by two goals with five minutes remaining, France turned it on with an onslaught led by substitute Kylian Mbappe to claim a draw.

The French forward kept his cool from the penalty spot in injury time to ensure a share of the spoils, despite Iceland’s best attempts at stopping Mbappe.

The teenager had just equalised when the opposition continued to target Mbappe, with one tackle from Runar Mar Sigurjonsson with two minutes remaining infuriating those in the French dugout.

Paul Pogba, who had been substituted 25 minutes earlier, led the calls for Sigurjonsson to be punished and the Manchester United midfielder even had to be dragged away from the referee as he demanded more protection for Mbappe.

The Icelandic midfielder accepted the booking, having already had a nibble at Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbappe a few moments earlier.

Referee Tiago Martins eventually regained control of proceedings and ordered the French players back to the bench before letting the final couple of minutes play out.
