Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba hastily deleted a tweet of a picture of him just moments after manager Jose Mourinho was sacked by the club

United announced on Tuesday morning that Mourinho had left the club less than a year after signing a new contract in January.

Gary Neville didn’t take the slip-up lightly, indirectly telling Pogba to “do one as well” in response.

Mourinho and Pogba shared a frosty relationship this season with the French World Cup winner criticising his side’s tactics after their 1-1 draw with Wolves in September.

Mourinho then visibly reprimanded Pogba in front of his teammates at training a few days later before reportedly calling the 25-year-old a ‘virus’ after their 2-2 draw with Southampton earlier this month.

Pogba was also an unused substitute in United’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday with the defeat leaving the club 19 points adrift of the Premier League leading Reds.

Mourinho claimed Pogba was not considered to start at Anfield because he was happy with the alternative options at his disposal.

Before the game, Mourinho told Sky: “I made many decisions, I made many decisions. Starting with 11 players and leaving some on the bench. I always try to choose what I think is the best for the team.

“I think the team lately with Herrera, Matic and Lingard, the team lost some qualities but at the same time we became more aggressive, more simple and more intense without the ball and that is what I think we need to play a fast team like Liverpool is.”
