Owen Hargreaves: “Klopp realises the next job is important”

Jurgen Klopp seems to be the runaway favourite for the Liverpool job following Brendan Rodgers' sacking.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach has been biding his time since leaving the German club, and one former Bundesliga star revealed to JOE that he believes the 48-year-old has just been waiting for the right move. Speaking before Rodgers' dismissal, BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves acknowledged that "If there’s a top job that comes up, [Klopp's] name along with [Carlo] Ancelotti is one that’s going to be floated around for it, you can guarantee that." But he recognised that Dortmund's strong start under Thomas Tuchel - only Bayern Munich are above them in the Bundesliga table - will increase the pressure on Klopp to make sure the next move is the right one. "Thomas Tuchel has come in at Dortmund and done a terrific job, playing great attacking football, so how much of that is the coach and how much is the players?" Hargreaves adds. "If Tuchel has a ton of success this year that might take a tiny bit of the shine off what Klopp did with that group of players, because where he took Dortmund from and to was remarkable. Maybe people won’t put as much emphasis on it being Klopp's job if Tuchel has great success. "He's had offers, and I think he realises the next job is important." Klopp is reported to have already agreed a three-year deal with Liverpool, according to reports from Europe, and if appointed he will be expected to improve upon a frustrating start to the season. The Reds are currently 10th in the Premier League table, with just one win from their last six games, while they have drawn their opening two Europa League games.
