He’s ‘personally involved’ in the signing
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘personally involved’ as he makes Manchester United star a key target just days into job at Besiktas.
Marcus Rashford looks set to leave the club this month after he fell out of favour with United boss Ruben Amorim.
The 27-year-old has not featured since he was dropped from the squad for the Manchester derby in December.
He has been linked with several clubs including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
However, according to Turkish journalist Gokmen Ozcan, Solskjaer has made Rashford a key target for Besiktas.
Ozcan wrote on X: “Beşiktaş Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s crazy transfer target: Marcus Rashford.
“The Norwegian coach is personally involved in the signing of the 27-year-old left winger, with whom he worked together at Manchester United.”
Solskjaer, 51, has signed an 18-month deal with the Turkish side, taking up his first managerial role since he departed United in 2021.
He played down talk of a possible reunion in his press conference on Tuesday saying: “I’ve come from Manchester United, so there will be transfer news like this.
“Casemiro and Rashford are very good players, but I haven’t had any contact with them.
“I enjoyed my time at Manchester United. That chapter is closed. I’m looking forward to working at Besiktas now. The Bilbao game will be tough, but we are ready.”
Reports have previously suggested that Barcelona is Rashford’s preferred destination but the England international played some of his best football under the United legend and as he battles to get back into Thomas Tuchel’s England side, he could be persuaded to reconsider.
Besiktas are unlikely to match his £300,000 per week wages though. Ciro Immobile and Rafa Silva are their highest earners at £162,000 weekly, and they may not pay more. They also currently play in the Europa League, not Champions league which Rashford of course will be targeting.
