The 21 year-old moves for an initial £35m plus a further £5m in add-ons, and the club holds an option to extend the deal by a further year.

As set out in BBC Sport's report on the Diouf transfer, he was the Bees' priority defensive target in this window, with discussions having stalled this summer before being reopened earlier this week.

A big profit on Diouf for West Ham

Diouf played in West Ham's Championship opener against Burnley but was left out of the Hammers' following two matchday squads while the deal was worked on.

He arrived from Slavia Prague for £19m a year ago and played 34 times last season, providing five assists, so his sale is a substantial profit for a club that finished 18th and went down.

He is not the only player to leave either, after Wan-Bissaka left West Ham on a season-long loan to Aston Villa.

Diouf returns to the Premier League after suffering relegation with the Hammers. He broke into the Senegal side last year and played four times at the World Cup this summer.

Brentford's fifth signing of the summer

"He's a player that fits our ideal age profile, with lots of room to still develop," Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said.

Diouf said Andrews had convinced him he could keep improving at the club, and when asked about his ambition on joining, replied: "Why not win the league?"

He is Brentford's fifth summer signing, after striker Callum Wilson, midfielder Mamadou Sangare, centre-back Jannik Schuster and winger Jaidon Anthony.

Andrews' side finished ninth last season, missing out on European football on goal difference, and began this campaign with a 3-0 win over Tottenham before Sunday's league game against Leeds.

Elsewhere in a busy window, Curtis Jones completed a £30m move to Inter Milan.
