Oh look, James Rodriguez is on the cusp of joining Manchester United… again

And it's set to be 'confirmed on Sunday'

Simon Lloyd

For what is probably something like the 1,268th time in the last couple of years, James Rodriguez is on the cusp of a move to Manchester United.

That’s ‘reportedly’, of course. It’s *always* ‘reportedly’.

The Colombian, signed almost exclusively by Florentino Perez for scoring a really good goal at the last World Cup, has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Real’s first team over the last couple of years. Having grown tired of the Bernabeu bench, he’s now (yet again) said to be itching for a move away from the Spanish capital.

Just as is the case with Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Neymar and every other high profile attacking player under the sun, United are said to be sniffing around. Not only that, reports from Spain go as far as suggesting that Rodriguez’s move to Old Trafford is set to be announced in a matter of days.

As always seems to happen at this time of year, a source from a radio station claims to have the inside track on the transfer dealings of Real Madrid. Not only do Caracol claim that Rodriguez will move to Manchester, they also insist that confirmation of this will be announced after Real’s final La Liga match of the season, which takes place on Sunday when Zinedine Zidane and his players will hope to seal the Spanish title away at Malaga.

Given that Rodriguez is said to favour a move to a club that can offer Champions League football, it would be strange to see such an announcement made with United still to play their Europa League final with Ajax a few days later.

Don’t hold your breath, United fans. Just spend your Sunday night watching Countryfile and forget about it.
