Tottenham use new stadium big screen to make Harry Kane announcement

Very modern

The most 2018 football club announcement we’ve ever seen

These are exciting times for Tottenham Hotspur. Yeah, they’ve still not actually won anything since Pascal Chimbonda was in their line-up but surely, *surely* it’s only a matter of time…

Maurcio Pochettino, who no longer seems to be on Real Madrid’s list of potential Zinedine Zidane replacements, has assembled an exciting young team, who will move back to their own stadium in the months ahead.

White Hart Lane Mk II is still under construction, but Spurs used one of its newly installed big screens to make an exciting announcement on Friday afternoon. Harry Kane, the recently appointed England captain, has inked a new contract with the club.

Here’s how the news was broken…

How very modern.

The new deal ties the striker to the club for the next six years and follows the five-year deal signed by Pochettino next month -y’know the one that definitely *doesn’t* have any release clause.

Kane, 24, ended the last campaign with 30 Premier League goals to his name. He’s established himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in world football in recent years, finding the net 108 times in 150 appearances in the English top flight.

Kane is currently with the England squad as they prepare to fly out to Russia for the World Cup. He played no part in the 2-0 warm-up friendly win over Costa Rica on Thursday evening, watching from the bench as Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck helped Gareth Southgate’s team ease to victory.

He is expected to start in the Three Lions’ opener with Tunisia a week on Monday.

Tottenham played their home fixtures at Wembley Stadium for the entirety of last season. They had initially expected to be in their new stadium by the start of the 2018/19 campaign but have asked the Premier League to schedule their early fixtures away from home to allow for the construction work to be completed.
