Napoli will expect an explanation from Uefa after being drawn in a nightmare group in the Champions League.
The Italian side will take on Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, as well as Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade, in Group C.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has voiced his dissatisfaction about the fact that Liverpool, who made it all the way to the final last season, were placed in Pot 3 when the draw was made last week.
PSG were given top seeding, while Napoli were placed in Pot 2, and De Laurentiis wants to know why the Reds were not at the very least in the same pot.
“We are bitter, I will ask for an explanation from Uefa,” said De Laurentiis, speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, via Liverpool Echo.
“Liverpool, Champions League finalists, are put in pot 3? It is a disastrous anomaly.”
Only last month, Liverpool thrashed Napoli 5-0 but it’s hard to glean a lot from that result due to the fact that it was no more than a pre-season friendly.
Clubs’ coefficient rankings are decided by Uefa by calculating the success of European teams over the past five seasons.
Klopp admitted that it wasn’t ideal for Liverpool to be placed in Pot 3 but he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“I’ve been to Napoli with Dortmund so I know what the atmosphere is like there,” Klopp said.
“In fact, it’s where I got a suspension. I can do better, obviously!
“Napoli, we beat them in pre-season but it goes without saying these two games will be completely a different challenge.”
