He was visibly frustrated by his performance
Enzo Maresca was left frustrated by Mykhailo Mudryk during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Servette on Thursday night and has issued an ultimatum.
The Ukrainian moved to Stamford Bridge in January 2023 in a whopping £89m transfer deal but has struggled to make his mark at the Blues.
He was given a chance in Thursday nights Europa Conference League first leg against Servette.
However, Maresca was left visibly frustrated on his touchline by his performance and gave an honest assessment of Mudryk’s Chelsea career in his post-match conference.
Maresca said: “I think this is Misha, this is Mudryk, in terms of not only tonight, but in terms of since he joined the club.
“I think he had some good moments and then some moments like flipping a coin. You don’t know if it’s one thing or the other thing. This is Misha. If he can become more consistent, he can take one step forward.”
Maresca, who took the reins from Mauricio Pochettino over the Summer added: “We are going to try and help him change.
“He needs to try and understand that we are going to give him the ball in the last third. And when he’s there [it’s about] taking the right decision.
“For me, most of the mistakes from Misha is not about the quality or the technical mistake, it’s about the choice.”
Maresca was hopeful that he could help Mudryk iron out some of these mistakes.
He added: “Sometimes he has to play and he tries to do something different and we lose the ball. Sometimes he has to go one-v-one, it’s about decision making. Hopefully we can help him and improve that.”
Though Maresca was seen losing his temper with Mudryk, he admitted he was not completely satisfied with the team’s overall performance as fans were heard booing the team as they headed in 0-0 at half-time.
Maresca has been under scrutiny since he arrived. Chelsea have made numerous signings this transfer window leaving some players questioning where they fit in.
Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are two players who are training separately from the rest of the squad.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Maresca implied that if players ‘want minutes, they should leave’.
