Mo Salah’s early opener against Spurs set a new Liverpool record

When you look at some of the names he's beaten, this really is impressive

Mo Salah’s phenomenal first season as a Liverpool player continues.

The Egyptian, a summer arrival from AS Roma, needed only a couple of minutes to give his side the lead against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, making the most of some slack defending to slide home the opener past Hugo Lloris.

Incredibly, this was his 28th goal of the season so far. It was also his 20th in the Premier League, and in reaching the milestone, he set a new Liverpool record.

As pointed out by OptaJoe in the tweet below, Salah has reached 20 league goals faster than any other Liverpool player in the Premier League era (and yeah, we know football existed before 1992). It’s only taken him 25 appearances to reach the tally, fewer than Robbie Fowler, Michael Own, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Florent Sinama Pongolle.

Not bad going, eh?

Free-scoring Salag and his Liverpool teammates follow their meeting with Tottenham by visiting Southampton next weekend. After that, they return to Champions League football as they travel to Portugal to face FC Porto.
