Charlie Davies has overcome more than most, both inside and outside football.
The United States international striker was just seeing his career take off when he was seriously injured in a car-crash in August 2009, in which a fellow passenger lost her life.
The injuries suffered in the accident ruled him out of the 2010 World Cup and almost ended his career altogether.
And now Davies has overcome another huge setback, recovering from a rare form of cancer to return to action once more.

Speaking to FOX Soccer, the 30-year-old revealed that the cancer was discovered when he had scans for a groin injury suffered playing for his current club New England Revolution in MLS.
“After this news I thought ‘this has to be the last test, right?’,” he told interviewer and former international team-mate Stuart Holden.
“But that being said, all these points in my life that I’ve had all these different types of adversity have helped me deal with the next one and the next one.”
After having a testicle removed as part of his treatment, Davies has coined a new nickname for himself – ‘One-nut Chuck’ – and seems to be taking things in his stride.
