Michael Olise shot produces ‘real-life FIFA glitch’ in buildup to Palace goal

Anyone else still rubbing their eyes?

Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha scored one of the strangest goals you’ll ever see against Everton, with Michael Olise’s initial strike defying physics as it struck the post.

Patrick Vieira’s side dominated their FA Cup quarter-final tie against the Toffees, taking the lead against Frank Lampard’s men in the 29th minute through Marc Guehi – who received his first senior England call-up earlier this week.

The Eagles made it 2-0 just before half-time courtesy of Jean-Philippe Mateta, who stroked his effort home after some good work from Zaha.

Palace’s third goal of the tie confused many people – including some of the players, viewers and even the ITV camera operators.

The 20-year-old received the ball just inside the penalty area and unleashed a first-time strike in an attempt to catch out Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.

However, as the youngster went to shoot, he appeared to kick the ball against himself, which saw the ball loop up into the air and seemingly out for a goal-kick.

Then, out of absolutely nowhere, the home side were celebrating their third goal of the match, with Zaha celebrating having converted from close range.

Bizarrely, the camera cut straight to Olise, as if to focus on him after he wasted what looked to be a good chance. Then, it quickly cut to Zaha celebrating with several other Palace players.

The goal confused everybody, even more so when you inspect the direction that the ball went in after it left Olise’s boot.

Viewers couldn’t believe what had occurred at Selhurst Park, with one Twitter user saying: “I thought it glitched and showed his exact shot from 10/15 mins earlier”.

Another added: “Had to rewatch it about 20 times to check that it didn’t hit the back board and did actually hit the bottom of the post!”

A third person wrote: “I thought the same and looked down at my phone. I thought Tyldsey had lost the plot”.

Confused by the goal, another replied: “We are still rubbing our eyes.”

Substitute Will Hughes added a fourth goal in the 87th minute to secure Palace cemented their place in the FA Cup semi-final.
