Maurizio Sarri gives his take on Chelsea’s captaincy confusion

It sounds like Maurizio Sarri couldn't care less who Chelsea's next club captain will be.

Gary Cahill is currently Chelsea's official skipper but the defender has yet to make an appearance for Sarri this season. Cahill has acknowledged that he might well be forced to look for a new club in January due to his non-existent playing time for the Blues this term. In Cahill's absence, several players have sported Chelsea's captain armband this season but the club's new manager doesn't pay much attention to the captaincy issue. For Thursday's Europa League group opener at PAOK, Willian started the game as skipper but Cesar Azpilicueta took over responsibilities when he came on for the final 25 minutes of the game. But deciding on the wearer of the armband is not exactly high up on Sarri's list of priorities at Stamford Bridge. "I don’t remember who was the captain at the beginning of the game. Who was the captain? Willian?" Sarri said. "And in the second part, Azpilicueta. I don’t know. I don’t remember. I understand that in England it is important. For me it is not so important. "I have my idea. I want to speak to the players and I want to speak to my club. It was not possible this week. Maybe it will be possible in the next week."
