Manchester United refuse Manchester City’s documentary request

The first Manchester derby of the season takes place on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Victory for Manchester City will leave them 11 points ahead of Manchester United and in a commanding position to claim the league title. City, who haven't dropped points in the league since August, could even take a draw from the game and still hold a considerable advantage over their rivals. But a win over United will be their 14th consecutive league victory, and will set a new record. However, whether they win, lose or draw, the game at Old Trafford is undoubtedly the biggest fixture of the season so far, and will be a pivotal point in the season for both clubs. The Sky Sports and Premier League cameras will be there to record every action on the field, but the documentary crew following City won't be. United have turned down a request from City to allow a documentary crew to film in the away dressing room, according to the BBC. Amazon Prime paid £10m to make a behind-the-scenes documentary series about City, and are currently filming ahead of the show being broadcast in autumn 2018. However, they won't be present at Old Trafford on Sunday. United reportedly feel that the tunnel area will already be too cramped because of the number of film crews that will be present, including 23 television rights holders, and it would therefore be too difficult to accommodate Amazon, who also aren't one of the Premier League's broadcast partners. The report claims that United rejected a similar request from another club a few years ago. The club hasn't been named, but it could have been Liverpool, who had their own behind-the-scenes documentary series back in 2012.
