Butt denies any wrongdoing after being questioned on Tuesday

Following his arrest over an alleged assault, Nicky Butt won’t be suspended from his job as Manchester United academy manager, it is reported.

The former England international was interviewed by police on Tuesday on suspicion of assault after an incident in the Hale area of the city left a woman with a cut hand.

Police have confirmed that she didn’t require hospital treatment and Butt has been bailed until 16 May. He strongly denies the charges.

But he will keep his job, pending the result of police investigations, according to Daily Mail.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 2pm on Tuesday 16 April 2019 to reports that a woman had been assaulted at a house on Broadway, Hale. The woman received a small cut to her hand and does not require hospital treatment.

“A 44–year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed pending further inquiries.”

In a playing career mainly at Manchester United and Newcastle, Butt appeared 39 times for England and won 11 major honours.

A statement from his legal team asserted that he will fight any accusations following the arrest. “Mr Butt strongly denies any allegations or suggestions of an assault and will continue to co-operate and assist the police with their ongoing investigations,” read the lawyer’s statement.
