Manchester United legend ‘blames’ Sir Alex Ferguson for club’s current struggles

It comes after Sir Alex was relieved of his ambassadorial duties

Erik ten Hag is coming under increasing pressure as the Premier League trophy seems to get further and further away each season.

However, this is not a trait confined to the Ten Hag era, for the last ten years the club have struggled to emulate the success of the Fergie years.

Last week news broke that Sir Alex Ferguson had been relieved of his ambassadorial duties by the club.

Now, club legend Patrice Evra has said he blames himself and the iconic manager for United’s turbulent ten year spell.

Patrice Evra played for Manchester United for eight-and-a-half seasons between 2006 and 2014, winning five league titles, the Champions League and three League Cups.

Evra told the BBC: “It's always tough to talk about United right now because back in the day we used to play for the fans, for the badge, for the history.”

Ferguson spent 27 years at the club, winning 13 Premier League titles including in the treble winning season of 99.

However, Evra believes Sir Alex should have stayed longer.

He continued: “I blame myself, I blame Sir Alex Ferguson. When we left, we left too early and it's difficult for the players because they don't have any example.”

Despite his comments, the Frenchman clarified that he backed the current manager.

He said: “I'm not inside, I don't know what the problem is. The manager Ten Hag is trying to do his best - it's not good enough. But it's not just about this season, it's since we won the last league in 2013, the club has been like in a chaos.

“I'm a straightforward guy. Even if you put the chef as a manager, I will support any manager.”
