Manchester United coach drops job hint on social media and it hasn’t gone unnoticed

Remember the fans who scoffed when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was made caretaker manager of Manchester United?

They’re not scoffing anymore.

Solskjaer has exceeded literally every supporter’s expectations since he took over from Jose Mourinho before Christmas and it feels like something of a foregone conclusion that the Norwegian will be offered the position on a full-time basis before long.

With confidence coursing through the fanbase as well as the team, United legend Gary Neville expects Solskjaer to be named permanent manager before the end of the month.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of Solskjaer’s tenure has been the social media activity of assistant manager Mike Phelan.

Phelan, who famously worked under Sir Alex Ferguson for several years, has delighted fans with his post-match Twitter updates since he joined Solskjaer’s backroom team and he piqued supporters’ curiosity with a post ahead of United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Phelan shared Google’s criteria for picking new employees and found it “interesting” how highly an ability to learn, humility, leadership, ownership and expertise are rated for prospective hires.

Solskjaer has certainly displayed the above traits during his spell as caretaker manager and remains coy when presented with questions from reporters on the subject of his inevitable appointment as permanent boss.

To say that fans read into Phelan’s tweet on Sunday would be an understatement.
