That moment when your club signs player you’ve never heard of and every fan goes ‘eh?’

We’ve all been there at some stage down the years – this time it was Manchester United supporters’ turn.

But it seems that it wasn’t just fans left scratching their heads over £36m French teenager Anthony Martial.

It appears that club captain and Martial’s potential strike partner Wayne Rooney has no clue about the guy he could be playing alongside next week.

United’s French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed that Rooney had to ask him who the hell this big money signing actually was.

“To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak,” Schneiderlin is reported to have told journalists at France’s training base.

“I told him he’s a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the the beginning of this.

“I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Therry Henry, even if it’s the press who are making that comparison.”

during the UEFA Champions Leaguequalifying round play off second leg match between Monaco and Valencia on August 25, 2015 in Monaco, Monaco.

If the deal is finalised it could be worth up to £58m and would make Martial far and away the world’s most expensive teenager – and even eclipse the fee paid for French legend Zinedine Zidane.

Speaking about this astronomical sum, Schneiderlin said: “The size of the fee? If he wants my advice, it is to ignore it.

“The media will talk a lot and will expect him to score many goals. But he must remember his qualities and play like he knows how. He can’t be paralysed by it. I think everything will go well.”
