Manchester United's nose has been bloodied by Chelsea in their failed pursuit of Pedro, but they're still swinging.

United fans may be reeling after missing out on targets to Chelsea and Man City, but a glimmer of hope has emerged. The Daily Mirror report that United are still well in the hunt for Everton defender John Stones as they step up their search for a new centre-back. That should pit them against Chelsea, who have been chasing the England international all summer. The Mirror also claims that Stones has put in a transfer request, but Toffees boss Roberto Martinez firmly rejected that notion at his Friday press conference. Whether Stones ends up in Manchester or London, it will cost his suitors north of £30m.
