Man United plot John Stones revenge on Chelsea…

Could this actually happen?

JOE

Manchester United’s nose has been bloodied by Chelsea in their failed pursuit of Pedro, but they’re still swinging.

Somewhere out there, in this crazy, crazy world, Ed Woodward is flying into another city to set the wheels in motion on a transfer that may never happen.

Nicolas Otamendi, Sergio Ramos, Pedro – all have been strongly linked with moves to Old Trafford only to choose improved pay packets or moves elsewhere (as well as improved pay packets).

United fans may be reeling after missing out on targets to Chelsea and Man City, but a glimmer of hope has emerged.

The Daily Mirror report that United are still well in the hunt for Everton defender John Stones as they step up their search for a new centre-back.

That should pit them against Chelsea, who have been chasing the England international all summer.

The Mirror also claims that Stones has put in a transfer request, but Toffees boss Roberto Martinez firmly rejected that notion at his Friday press conference.

Whether Stones ends up in Manchester or London, it will cost his suitors north of £30m.
