After drawing with Bournemouth and losing to Crystal Palace lately, Jürgen Klopp's men failed to score past Southampton at Anfield, the game ending 0-0.
In doing so, it meant that Manchester United, who faced Arsenal at The Emirates later in the afternoon, had their hopes of a top four finish back in their own hands.
Not that any United supporters were too optimistic about this. Having been presented with a number of opportunities to make ground on the clubs in the Champions League places over the course of the season, United have repeatedly blown the opportunity.

As expected, several key players had been rested ahead of the Europa League semi-final with Celta Vigo on Thursday night.
