Man City fan confused by 'game in hand' on 5 live phone-in

"Where did you go to school? I'm going to have to call your maths teacher."

Make no mistake about it, the pressure is starting to show in the Premier League title race... at least with some of the supporters of the clubs involved.

For Manchester City, it's simple. Though currently two points behind Liverpool, their game in hand means they will retain the title if they win their remaining five league games. Sure, Jürgen Klopp's side's run-in looks easier on paper, but if City win all five - including a Manchester Derby at Old Trafford and a home game against Tottenham - they are champions again. It's basic maths.

Sadly though, one City supporter appeared to be struggling to grasp this as he called BBC Radio 5live on Sunday.

Speaking to Conor McNamara and Chris Sutton, City fan Joe said (with confidence) that he believed his side could afford to lose or draw the game with Manchester United, something he conceded could well happen.

When told by Sutton that they couldn't, Joe continued to argue his point.

"You can't afford to lose or draw at United," Sutton said.

"Of course we can," he replied. "We've got a game in hand."

Finally, with Sutton and McNamara explaining the extent of the situation at length, Joe admitted that he "might" have got his numbers wrong. He definitely had.

City briefly claimed top spot in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park. Liverpool leapfrogged them later in the day with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Anfield.
