Liverpool fans seem very eager to tempt fate ahead of Merseyside derby

Is this justified confidence, or seriously tempting fate?

Liverpool at home against Everton – foregone conclusion?

Jurgen Klopp’s men are saying all the right things about how Saturday’s game will be a tough encounter, and how they’ll need to be at their best to beat Ronald Koeman’s charges, but it seems plenty of Liverpool supporters out there didn’t get the memo and are doing their level best to tempt fate ahead of the weekend’s Merseyside derby.

In fairness you can’t blame them, as the Toffees have an awful recent record at Anfield. Jamie Carragher said ahead of the game that Everton players seem to have an inferiority complex they’ll need to shake off if they’re to get any joy in front of the Liverpool faithful, but that’s easier said than done when you haven’t won there since 1999.

Those barren 18 years certainly aren’t lost on the red half of Merseyside, who have made light of the fact and mocked Everton’s awful run of results at their ground. A lot of the jokes concern the fact that Ben Woodburn, who is expected to play for the home side, wasn’t even born the last time Liverpool succumbed to their city rivals on their own patch.

Justified confidence or fateful pride? We’ll find out soon enough…

In fairness to them, not all Liverpool fans are taking things for granted…
