Alas the signs were not good when the Senegalese superstar went down after a challenge from Leighton Baines during Saturday's Merseyside derby victory over Everton. On Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp explained that the club were still waiting for swelling on the knee to reduce in order for a scan to be carried out.
Now it transpires that the player will not play again this season, and will require surgery on his knee for ligament damage. As you can imagine, the news has not gone down well amongst Liverpool supporters, and seriously dents the Anfield side's Champions League qualification hopes...
