Enough about the newly-elected President of the United States of America, let’s get back to the important stuff: Lionel Messi has a new tattoo.

We say ‘new’ tattoo, but actually it seems like the Barcelona star simply got bored on his trans-Atlantic flight back to Argentina this week and decided to spend the time colouring in his leg with a black Sharpie pen.

Messi has joined up with his international teammates ahead of Thursday night’s trip to play Brazil in Belo Horizonte – the scene of their embarrassing World Cup semi-final defeat to Germany.

At a training session ahead of the game, observers noticed that his old tattoo, which looked like this three years ago…

The hands of his son Thiago, which made up his original tattoo on his calf, appear to have survived, along with the number 10 and football, which can be seen on his shin. As for everything else below his left knee, it’s all been covered up in black ink, looking just like the back of a Year 8 kid’s exercise book.

Unfortunately for Lionel, there was no story quite big enough on Wednesday morning to keep his new tat out of people’s tweets…
