Lionel Messi's father and agent, Jorge Messi, has confirmed that his son wants to return to Barcelona after he was seen heading into a building with club president, Joan Laporta.
Messi is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, where the 35-year-old was booed on his final game for the French champions.
A statement from the football legend said: "I would like to thank the club, the city of Paris and its people for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future."
As expected, a host of clubs are interested in the World Cup winner's signature with the likes of Inter Miami and Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal all wanting to sign the forward. Al Hilal are reportedly willing to offer Messi a package worth £2bn to persuade him to join.
However the forward's father was spotted speaking to Laporta about a potential fairytale return to the club Messi spent 17 years at.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner left the Camp Nou in the summer of 2021 after Barcelona were left unable to afford his wage demands as a result of countless financial mismanagement.
After speaking to Laporta, Jorge confirmed that his son would be keen to return to the place where he made his name.
"Leo wants to return to Barcelona and I’d love to see him back to Barça," he said.
"Barça move is an option for sure."
