Leicester’s Christian Fuchs suffers freak injury in training

Not quite Asensio levels of weird but still pretty odd

It’s a week for the unusual injuries.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Marco Asensio had been ruled out of Real Madrid’s Champions League group opener against APOEL Nicosia after the Spaniard picked up an infection while shaving his legs.

It was the turn of Christian Fuchs the following day as the Leicester full back suffered a freak injury of his own, although Fuchs’ is not quite as embarrassing.

Foxes manager Craig Shakespeare spoke to the media on Thursday afternoon and confirmed that his left back had been taken to a specialist after injuring his eye in training.

Fuchs’ eye apparently closed up after a “nasty, freak accident with a pole in training.”

The expected jokes did the rounds on social media, with supporters playing on the word “pole.”

In fact, the injury was sustained when a ball was hit against a training pole which subsequently struck the Austrian international in the eye.

“It was nasty at the time, but it has cleared up,” Shakespeare added, via the Leicester Mercury.

“We will wait for the specialist’s report. Until he has seen the specialist, I would like to hold back and see how he is. It is touch and go.”

Leicester travel to Huddersfield on Saturday desperate for all three points, having lost three of their opening four Premier League games this season.
