A year ago, if someone had told you that Leicester would turn down a £65m bid for Harry Maguire, you'd have laughed at them. But such is the fast changing nature of the footballing world, and the power of a good World Cup in inflating a transfer fee, that scenario has become reality.
United's approach for Maguire would suggest that they have given up on trying to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld, who has two years left in his contract that contains a release clause that will kick in next summer.
