Kylian Mbappé had sassy comeback for Monaco fans who booed him

He's not exactly lying

Fair enough, I suppose

Nobody – bar PSG, Bayern and Juventus fans – likes seeing promising players being hoovered up by the best team in their domestic league. Unfortunately, it’s something of which we are seeing more and more, with the exponential inflation of the transfer market.

The most saddening example of this trend was last summer’s transfer that saw French starlet Kylian Mbappé move from Monaco – who had just been crowned champions – move to the Qatari-funded PSG. He was raised in Paris, in fairness. Monaco’s success was never going to last either, so on one level you can understand his desire to move, but it’s still a depressing indictment on how the status quo will always be restored.

This season, when Mbappé played against Monaco for his new club, he was booed by those who last season were singing his praises. The forward might only be 19 years old, but he didn’t allow the audible criticism to get to him. In fact, he had the sassiest of comebacks for the Monaco fans.

“In 6 months, I did more than 3/4 of the players to ever play there [Monaco]. They can blame me, but in six months I had the best season in the club’s history”, Mbappé told ouest-france.fr.

Fair enough, I suppose. He was bloody good, and has shown no signs of slowing down.
