Kevin Keegan has died aged 75

Keegan was reportedly diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer in January.

The statement made by Keegan's family reads: "It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75.

“Kevin had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.

“A double Ballon D’or winner, Kevin was a much loved husband, father and grandfather.

“The family would like to thank Kevin’s incredible medical team for all their support.

“This is a hugely difficult time and they are requesting space and privacy.”

As a player, Keegan was considered one of the greatest of his generation, winning back-to-back Ballon d'Ors in the 1970s, as he secured multiple First Division titles with Liverpool.

Post-retirement, Keegan managed Newcastle United on two occasions, as well as the England national side.

Kevin Keegan is well remembered for his time at St James' Park. After guiding the Magpies to promotion to the Premier League in 1993, the former England international led the club to within touching distance of their first top-flight title since 1927, only narrowly missing out to Manchester United.
