Kevin De Bruyne could reportedly spend another extended period of time out of action amid concerns over a long-term injury.

De Bruyne was withdrawn in the first half of Manchester City’s 3-0 win at Burnley on Friday. The Belgian went off in the Champions League final with a hamstring problem and missed the bulk of pre-season and the Community Shield to recover.

The midfielder has since undergone a scan to find out the extent of the injury and according to reports in Belgium, it could be worse than first feared.

According to Nieuwsblad Sport, De Bruyne may have to undergo surgery which would subsequently rule him out for the remainder of 2023 and see him hopefully return to action in 2024.

Man City have been dealt a number of injury blows ahead of their Super Cup tie against Sevilla in Athens on Wednesday while Ruben Dias and John Stones are also expected to be unavailable.

Bernardo Silva has also not travelled with the squad.

Pep Guardiola is looking to bring in reinforcements and has identified Lucas Paqueta of West Ham as one of them. City had a first bid rejected but are expected to come back in for the Brazilian. Jeremy Doku of Rennes is also a rumoured target.
