Khedira will miss Wednesday’s game against Atletico Madrid

Sami Khedira has been sidelined after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

The Juventus midfielder will play no part in his side’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, the Italian champions confirming via a statement that the 31-year-old had stayed in Turin while the club conduct further tests.

‘Sami Khedira remained in Turin for medical examinations, from which emerged the opportunity to perform an electrophysiological study and eventual treatment of an atrial arrhythmia which appeared today [Tuesday],’ the statement read.

At this stage, it is not known how long the German international, who previously played for Real Madrid, will be out of action for.

Speaking ahead of the game in Madrid, Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that Paulo Dybala will start the match, despite questions over whether he can play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Dybala is playing. Are you happy? Can I go?” Allegri joked.

He also singled out Alvaro Morata as a potential danger man for his side in the last 16 game. Morata played for Juve between 2014-16 before returning to Real Madrid. After an unsuccessful spell in England with Chelsea, he joined Atleti in the January transfer window.

“Alvaro Morata has grown a lot since he was with us,” said Allegri. “He is a very dangerous player in one-off games. Tomorrow, we have to try to control the game and stay attentive.”
