Jurgen Klopp has provided a worrying update about Sadio Mane’s injury

But Sturridge is back...

Jurgen Klopp’s injury update on Sadio Mane won’t fill Liverpool fans with confidence.

Mane opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 3-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby last Saturday, but limped-out of the game injured in the second-half.

The Senegalese forward hurt his knee during an awkward challenge with Leighton Baines, and looked in a lot of pain as he left the field.

Ahead of Liverpool’s game against Bournemouth on Wednesday night, Klopp admitted that Mane could miss the rest of the season.

“It is possible,” Klopp told reporters when asked if Mane’s season could be over.

The Liverpool manager said that the club’s medical staff are waiting for the swelling in Mane’s knee to go down before they can make a clear judgement on the injury, but he doesn’t sound hopeful.

“We have to wait a little bit, it is not 100 percent clear. Only thing I can say for sure is that he’s not available [against Bournemouth]. It’s not very positive, but we don’t know exactly.

“When the knee is swollen and you have to wait, I have never known there to be good news.”

Klopp also confirmed that Daniel Sturridge has trained this week, but it’ll be a big blow if Liverpool were to lose Mane for the rest of the season.

The forward has arguably been the team’s best player this season, and has 13 goals in 27 appearances.
