Jurgen Klopp has been admitted to hospital after feeling unwell.

The Liverpool manager missed training on Wednesday and checked himself into hospital, where he underwent a series of tests.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Klopp will be released later in the evening but it remains unknown whether he will take charge of Thursday’s training session with his players who have returned from international duty.

Klopp spent some time during the international break in South Africa for a charity event, where he answered several questions on topics as wide-ranging as the best player he’d ever coached and Manchester United’s pursuit of him in 2014.

The Reds host Southampton on Saturday afternoon and could be without the talismanic Sadio Mane, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring problem while representing Senegal last week.

While Klopp’s hospital visit is not expected to rule him out of being on the sideline this weekend, supporters are reminded of the fact that he did undergo emergency surgery on his appendix last year, an operation which forced him to miss the 2-2 draw at with Sunderland at Anfield.
