Jose Mourinho reportedly accused referee of ‘being sent by Juventus’ after being sent-off

Ah, Jose, never change

Jose Mourinho reportedly accused referee Luca Pairetto of “being sent by Juventus” after being sent off in Roma’s 2-2 draw with Verona on Saturday.

Roma were trailing 2-0 at half-time at the Stadio Olimpico, but goals from Cristian Volpato and Edoardo Bove in the second-half were enough to ensure that the points were shared.

The 59-year-old was infuriated with the referee’s performance in the match, and made his feelings known on the touchline.

His furious reaction led to him being sent-off by Pairetto in added-time, before throwing a typical Mourinho-style tantrum which saw him make a telephone gesture at the official.

The gesture related to the official’s father – Pierluigi – who was the Italian vice chairman of UEFA referees committee during the 2006 match fixing scandal.

As reported by La Stampa, Mourinho also made another reference to the Calciopoli scandal as he accused Pairetto of ‘being sent by Juventus’.

After receiving his marching orders, the former Chelsea boss booted the ball away in frustration. He then had to be restrained by goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos as he continued to vent at the referee.

Despite his anger, the 59-year-old ensured that he shook hands with Verona manager Igor Tudor, before waving to the Roma fans.

Mourinho’s antics could see him handed a two or three game suspension.

It is not the first time that the Portuguese manager has been sent-off during his second managerial stint in Italy – having been sent to the stands during Roma’s 0-0 draw with Napoli in October.

He later posted a video on Instagram of him watching the remainder of the tie from in the stands, where he climbed on a glass panelled railing to shout instructions.

Mourinho captioned the clip: “When you have no ticket and you desperately want to watch a great football game.”
