Jose Mourinho comments after latest twist in the Alexis Sanchez saga

This looks nailed on

Manchester United supporters think the deal for Alexis Sanchez is as good as done.

Monday evening certainly wasn’t a boring one for United fans because, while watching the side hammer Stoke City 3-0 in the Premier League, plenty of news emerged on the club’s much-publicised pursuit of the wantaway Arsenal forward.

Manchester City admitted defeat in the tug-of-war for Sanchez’s signature but Chelsea unexpectedly threw their hat in the ring with a late bid to hijack United’s attempt to bring the 29-year-old in on the cheap in January.

After United’s victory, manager Jose Mourinho was asked to provide an update on the Sanchez saga and he claimed that no deal had been agreed.

“No news on Alexis Sanchez, he is an Arsenal player,” Mourinho told the BBC. “If he stays then it’s great for Arsenal. If he comes to us, great for us. And if he goes to another club, great for them.”

Mourinho admitted that he wasn’t involved in any negotiations for the Chile international on Monday but acknowledged that other clubs were likely in the running to acquire Sanchez’s services.

“I’ve no idea. Today I was completely separate of all of that,” Mourinho insisted. “I was just focused on my match, not worried about anything else but the match.

“Probably there are other clubs also interested, and other clubs also trying,” he added.

But it was Mourinho’s remark about a rumoured agreement which would see Henrikh Mkhitaryan used as a makeweight in the deal for Sanchez which got United supporters excited.

When asked to offer some clarity on the position of Mkhitaryan, who was left out of the matchday squad against Stoke, Mourinho had this to say:

“Is it possible he’s going to be involved in the deal? It’s possible. It’s also possible he stays.”
