Jorginho looks set to complete a £57m move to Chelsea, having arrived in London earlier today and gone through a medical.

Manchester City were keen on signing Jorginho but it looks as though Maurizio Sarri’s imminent appointment as the new Chelsea manager has swayed Jorginho towards joining the London club.

The playmaker was a key part of Napoli’s title challenge last season, fulfilling the role of the deep-lying playmaker, breaking up attacks and launching counters.

Maurizio Sarri is expected to be announced as Chelsea manager in the coming days after Antonio Conte was finally relieved of his duties by Chelsea this week after months of enduring a loveless marriage in which neither party was willing to file the divorce papers.

Jorginho will be Sarri’s first signing of the summer, but most likely not the last.

Should Chelsea have to sell Eden Hazard to Real Madrid this summer, they will be back in the market for a winger. Napoli’s Dries Mertens, an international teammate of Hazard’s, could emerge as a contender to inherit his throne at Stamford Bridge. The Napoli forward hit his best career form under Sarri and has a low release clause of €28m.
