It looks like John Terry has decided on the next chapter of his footballing career.
Terry has reportedly agreed a deal to take charge of Chelsea’s U23 side and will move into the role upon the completion of his coaching badges.
A report in the Sun claims that the legendary Blues defender has agreed a £800,000-a-year deal to move into the position left vacant by Jody Morris when he reunited with Frank Lampard at Derby County in the summer.
Terry has made no secret of his ultimate desire to manage Chelsea down the line and it now looks like he’s got his foot back in the door, with Maurizio Sarri apparently playing a part in pushing for the move.
Sarri had previously explained how Terry would always be welcome at Stamford Bridge but a return in a coaching capacity made the most sense.
“Here is John Terry’s home. So he will be very important for everybody here. Only his presence,” Sarri said a few weeks ago.
Terry was in talks to continue his playing career at Spartak Moscow and had completed a medical with the Russian side before having a change of heart at the last minute.
“After considerable thought, I have decided to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow,” Terry said earlier this month.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Spartak and wish them and their supporters well for the rest of the season.
“They are an ambitious club and I have been very impressed with their professionalism.
“But after assessing this move with my family, we’ve decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time.”
