Joe Rogan drops rumour of potential Conor McGregor super-fight that would break all records

Joe Rogan is a man in the know.

Being involved with the UFC for the best part of two decades will do that for a fella. Rogan is so abreast of the behind-the-scenes decisions of the UFC that he's actually let match-ups slip on his podcast prior to their official announcement. The UFC colour commentator confirmed that former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos was set to face off with Alistair Overeem before his employer had the chance to make it official. So, a rumour has, at least once, proven to be more than a rumour when it comes to the loose-lipped Rogan. And here's hoping that the most recent piece of hearsay from Rogan has some bit of legitimacy to it as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt mentioned that he'd heard tell of a monumental super-fight that would likely break all gate and pay-per-view figures. "Man, I had heard some crazy rumour that I'd hoped was true," Rogan said on a recent Fight Companion podcast.

"That they were going to try to set up Nick vs. Conor. I’m like, ‘My god, that would break the world'. Do you know how insane the hype would be for a Nick Diaz vs. Conor McGregor fight? I mean, can you even imagine how crazy that would be?"

Rogan has mentioned in the past that that very match-up would be his pick if he had the role of UFC matchmaker and it would be hard to dispute its hugeness. https://www.instagram.com/p/BJdc8uRglIr/ The narrative is already in place, given the rivalry between 'The Notorious' and Diaz's younger brother, Nate, and considering the devoted followings of both fighters, a case could be made that it would be the biggest fight in UFC history. The bout would likely have to be contested at welterweight as the older Diaz sibling is a much bigger man than McGregor but, hey, if it makes money then make the fight. Firstly, McGregor has the not-so-little task of lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez standing in front of him while Diaz must cough up the remainder of his fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the same fine that didn't allow him to corner Nate in his ultimately unsuccessful rematch against McGregor at UFC 202. But once that payments reaches the coffers of the NAC, Diaz is a free man and he's made it clear that he's only interested in accepting big-money fights. And fights don't come much more lucrative than those against McGregor.
