JOE picks: The best summer 2015 rugby events

If the last day of the Six Nations and all its 221 points glory whetted your appetite for egg-chasing ahead of the World Cup in October, we suggest you keep the hype rolling over the summer get yourself along to one - or all - of these excellent rugby events.

Bournemouth 7s 22-24 May; Bournemouth RFC

This seaside event is widely regarded as the biggest three-day rugby sevens event in the country, with around 30,000 fans and players expected each year.

The Bournemouth 7s is a constant on many rugby folk’s calendars as a Bank Holiday blow-out, and with big names like Lewis Moody and Jamie Roberts often in attendance, the draw for spectators is huge.

Summer Social; 30 May Richmond Athletic Ground

The music and sports festival formerly known as Rugby Rocks, Summer Social never fails to deliver an excellent mix of off-the-chart fun and high-speed competition. And beer pong.

Enter a team to take part in the rugby, netball, volleyball, lacrosse and dodgeball action, or just head on down to the historic Richmond Athletic Ground to soak up the rays and enjoy sets from top DJs. The full line up is yet to be announced, but big dogs like  Zane Lowe and Benji Boko played there in the past, so expect it to be big.

Ibizia 10s - 16-18 June; Ibizia Town

The Ibizia 10s is a relative new-comer on the summer rugby block, and is a seemingly risky mix of sunshine, rugby, and all the hedonistic sins the White Isle can offer.

What could possibly go wrong?

If you can’t raise a team of like-minded mates, you can sign up to join Tom Varndell or Alex Cuthbert’s Barbarians sides.

London Sevens - 17, 18 May; Twickenham Stadium, London

If fancy dress and all-day drinking outside is more your thing, you can’t go wrong in attending the London leg of the World Rugby Sevens at Twickenham.

Two days of fancy dress - this year’s theme is likely to be Star Wars-based - and non-stop action from the elite of the sevens fame. What more could a sport fan want?
