Jesse Lingard’s brother takes aim at Man Utd over transfer demands

Jesse Lingard’s brother has made a not-so-subtle dig at Manchester United on social media over their transfer demands, with the midfielder keen to leave Old Trafford before deadline day.

The England international was reportedly close to joining Newcastle on loan earlier this week, however, the deal fell apart with United unsure about letting him leave the club.

As reported by the Mirror, as well as offering the Red Devils a £6m loan fee, the Magpies would have covered Lingard’s £100,000-a-week wages for the rest of the season.

As well as this, it is thought that they would have made a bonus payment if Eddie Howe’s side stayed up in the Premier League.

Last January, United allowed Lingard to join West Ham on loan, with the 29-year-old enjoying his time with the Hammers.

Lingard’s brother, Louie Scott, posted on his Instagram in reference to anniversary of that transfer: “A year ago today we was ‘allowed’ out on day release. Now we know how Akon feel.”

He added a handcuffs emoji to the picture of his brother celebrating one go his nine goals for David Moyes’ side.

The Red Devils midfielder is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer, meaning United will lose him for free if he doesn’t secure a permanent move away or sign a new deal.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick recently spoke about Lingard’s future at the club, suggesting that it is ‘normal’ other teams show interest in the Englishman.

He told reporters: “With regard to Jesse, it’s the same as with quite a few other players.

“He’s a really good player, I see that in every training session. For me it’s normal that other clubs like, for example, Newcastle show interest in him.”

The German further explained: “Here at Manchester United it is not so easy as we have other players who can also play in that position and we can’t change from one game to the other five or six positions.

“As I said, for him, I know his contract is expiring in the summer but the question is what does he want to do? Does he want to get more gametime from now on?

“Therefore, it’s quite legitimate to speak about other options, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if he stayed until the rest of season. I know he is a player who can always play, even if we need to play him from the start.

“I know what kind of level I will get from him. That’s how I would describe the situation.”

Lingard has started just one match under Rangnick since his arrival, making just 14 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
