Watch Javier Hernandez take one of the poorest penalties you’ll see all season

Poor

Simon Lloyd

Much like his former club, Javier Hernandez’s hopes of playing Champions League football next season are disappearing rapidly.

Although Bayer Leverkusen have made it through to the knockout stages of this season’s competition at the expense of Tottenham, their league form isn’t too great. Thirteen games in, they sit ninth in the Bundesliga – eight points adrift of the top four.

They couldn’t find a way of beating Freiburg at home this weekend, either – drawing the match 1-1.

But with minutes remaining, they were presented with a great chance to win the match when the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Chicharito stepped up to take the pen, which would almost certainly win his team the game.

He didn’t pick a corner, choosing to roll the ball straight down the middle. Normally when a professional footballer does this, the goalkeeper has already committed to diving towards one of his corners… but that wasn’t the case on this occasion.

As the below footage from BT Sport shows, the goalkeeper hardly moves and makes a straightforward stop with his feet.

As the fellas analysing it say, we’ve probably seen worse down the years, but we’ll have to go a long way to see a worse penalty this season.
