Jamie Vardy U-turns on Lexit decision in a bitter blow for Arsenal fans

Jamie Vardy has turned down Arsenal in favour of staying with Premier League champions Leicester City.

After weeks of speculation, the Foxes confirmed on Thursday that the 29-year-old had extended his contract with the club for a further four years. It seemed that the England international may leave the King Power Stadium after Arsenal agreed to meet his release clause of £20m, and Arsenal players began aggressively courting Vardy while his wife seemed to have confirmed the move on Twitter. But instead, the former Fleetwood Town player - who is currently in France preparing for England's Euro 2016 second round game against Iceland -has decided to stay put, with the club saying neither they nor Vardy will be making further comment on the situation until the after this summer's European Championships. A statement from Leicester City read:

'Leicester City have today (Thursday) agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years. 'Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club. 'Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France. 'There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.'
