As he was escorted off the pitch in the direction of police officers, the supporter can be seen blowing kisses to other Birmingham City fans who are heard cheering.

The fan, it has been revealed, was arrested by police immediately afterwards.

After the incident, Grealish – who remained calm throughout – can be seen being comforted by players from both teams.

The supporter has been widely condemned on social media after the attack, with many fans describing it as a disgrace and calling for a strong punishment to be handed to him.

Sunday’s Second City Derby takes place with just two points separating the Birmingham teams in the Championship table.

Birmingham City came into the game in 10th place on 50 points, while Villa sit two points and four places further behind.
