Newcastle fans were left less than impressed

Jack Grealish has been criticised for his “unprofessional” comments about Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron during Manchester City’s title parade on Monday.

City celebrated winning the Premier League on Monday night with an open-top bus parade around Manchester the day after their thrilling comeback against Aston Villa to win a fourth Premier League crown in five seasons.

Grealish was celebrating Man City’s title win

The 25-year-old, who became the most expensive Premier League transfer ever when joined the Blues back in August 2021, was one of those particularly keen to celebrate and had been spotted partying away with several members of the City squad.

The Grealish’s antics made headlines and one, in particular, drew the attention of several Newcastle fans, who were left less than impressed by the former Villa man’s comments.

In an Instagram story posted by Bernardo Silva, an understandably inebriated Grealish took to comparing the performance of teammate Riyad Mahrez to Almiron.

“There were two secrets… number one, Riyad, take him off the pitch, as soon as possible. He played like Almiron yesterday,” he said.

While the other members of the City and squad and many people online found it funny, others didn’t appreciate the 26-year-old’s attempt at humour.

Journalist Roberto Rojas said that he couldn’t understand why Grealish felt the need to compare Mahrez to the Paraguay international.

“Don’t understand why Grealish had to compare Mahrez to Almiron by slagging him off, that sounds very unprofessional,” he tweeted.

Newcastle fans’ reaction

Rojas wasn’t the only one, as many others leapt to the defence of Almiron and at the same time, used the opportunity to take aim at Grealish.

One user said: “Doesn’t matter if Jack Grealish is “right” about Miguel Almiron or not (he’s not). Point is, there’s no beef there, you don’t say it, it’s rude & unprofessional & just makes you look like a prized aubergine, especially when you cost £100m and only have 2 more goals.”

Meanwhile, both Geordie’s and neutrals alike labelled the remarks “egotistical” and suggested that Grealish should apologise:
