Alexander Isak says leaving Newcastle for Liverpool was an ‘clear’ decision

The Sweden striker arrived on transfer deadline day in September 2025 for a British record £125m.

Before moving to Anfield, Isak missed pre-season with fellow Magpie teammates choosing to train at his former club Real Sociedad amid uncertainty over his future at St James Park.

Isak shared his view on the northern Premier League club, saying promises made there had been "broken".

"Liverpool is a massive club, and everything about the club made it pretty clear," he told BBC Sport's The Football Interview.

"And the club's ambition and the club's will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it."

He struggled for goals in his first season at Anfield before a leg break ruled him out from December to April.

The 26 year-old has already matched last season's Premier League tally of three goals, after only four games.

When asked whether he ever regretted the move, the striker replied: "No, never. I would never think like that."

Isak added that the leg break "was tough. Anyone who had a long injury would know.

"But on the other hand, when you're in a good place and when you feel good, you don't really tend to look back because it doesn't really benefit you."

He made his World Cup debut over the summer, having managed just 1,032 minutes for the Reds across 22 appearances last season.

He scored once and assisted three goals for Graham Potter's side before Sweden went out to France in the round of 32.

He has praised team-mate Cody Gakpo as "a humble guy", and has talked about how his relationships with Andoni Iraola and Cody Gakpo have helped him this season.

"With the injuries last season, the World Cup was perfect," Isak said.

"I had that period where I could play and gain rhythm and form."

However, not every Liverpool squad story has been so settled as Mac Allister shared that Liverpool have told him there is no new contract coming.
